Ten links to check out from the WHQ June 2016 edition

The June 2016 edition of WHQ was packed as usual with useful articles. We’ve rounded up ten websites that are mentioned or included in the magazine to make it easy for you to check out those tips. The page in brackets is the page the article is on in the magazine.

  • Steven McIntosh, from Altair, mentioned Lewisham Council building the first ‘pop-up village’ for 24 families registered homeless (page 5). Find out more and see photos in this Guardian article
  • Tamsin Stirling contrasted debates in ‘binary terms’ where views are seen as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ with the sport of three-sided football (page 8). This fascinated me as it means teams have to form ‘alliances’ in a game where there is no referee. I did a search and found the Radio 4 programme that Tamsin mentioned . Listen for yourself here
  • I wrote about filming videos on your mobile phone (page ten). This is a nice video with simple tips on making videos.

  •  Shelter Cymru has launched a new app called Housing Help offering advice to people on all sorts of housing issues (page 13). Download it from iTunes  or  Google Play
  • Carl Sergeant AM wrote about his priorities for housing and the rest of his new portfolio (page 15). The story in on the WHQ website. Read it here
  • Teej Dew, from Tai Pawb, said that the Welsh Housing Equality Network has a Yammer page for sharing information (page 18). You can join by clicking on this link.
  • Duncan Forbes, from Bron Afon, wrote about the work of the Centre for Regeneration Excellence Wales (CREW) (page 19). Check out the CREW website here
  • Brett Sadler, from North Wales Housing, shares his organisation’s experience of improving digital services (page 27). Check out Brett’s presentation from May’s Tai conference on the same topic.
  • Gayna Jones is the new chair of the Design Commission for Wales and wrote about its role (page 32). She mentioned the website Shape My Town that was developed with partners to help individuals or groups improve their town, village or public place in Wales. Take a look at toolkit here.
  • Jon Barnes, from CIH Cymru gave tips on entering the Welsh Housing Awards and how they are a chance to look at your learning and development (page 39). The deadline is 16 September. Enter here now.
