New to the job – Robyn Marshall

New to the job is a feature where we meet people from across the sector who have taken on a new role. If you want to take part email [email protected]

Robyn Marshall from Melin HomesWhat is your name?
Robyn Marshall.

Where do you work and what do you do?
I’m an Engagement Officer for Y Prentis.

Why did you choose a career in housing/your job role?

Engagement, particularly with young people, is something I’m really passionate about. The fact that Y Prentis works in conjunction with Melin really appealed to me, as I had heard about all the great work Melin does with their community and residents.

What is the most important thing you have you learned since starting your career in housing?

That there are many routes into careers (especially in construction, where Y Prentis is focused) and that apprenticeships can open up lots of doors for everyone.

What advice would you give someone applying for a job at Melin?

Go for it! You have the opportunity to take part in loads of extra activities and events, the jobs really rewarding and it’s a really fun place to work. No two days are the same.

Where would you be working, if not in housing?

I worked in Pensions and Insurance before, but I really always wanted to be a radio presenter. I volunteer at a station on weekends and love it.

What motivates you?

Making a difference to peoples lives and getting to meet new people every day.

What do you do to relax?

I love music. I go to lots of live music events and also work at a festival a few times a year.

Proudest moment?

Winning an award for my “exceptional service and caring” at my previous job, after being nominated by a customer.

Most embarrassing moment (in or out of work)?

I fell off a train on the way to work at my old job, and had to be wheeled from the train station to my desk on my office chair in front of the whole company!

What was the last film you watched and how did you rate it?

The last film I saw at the cinema was A Star is Born. I loved it, and have had the soundtrack on repeat since.
